Banner Preschool is a very special place, with a uniquely caring and enthusiastic group of families and teachers. Each year, the parents at Banner generously help raise money to benefit the school. These contributions help fund substantial improvements around the school while maintaining reasonable tuition rates.
In years past, fundraising dollars have been used for such exciting additions as “Jeannie’s Music Garden,” a new sand play area, and other fun playground equipment. In the classrooms, you’ll notice involving light tables, media tables, and other resources which our children enjoy every day.
Some of the improvements are not quite so noticeable, but are just as important. Throughout the year, Banner teachers participate in programs to continue their own education in the dynamic field of early childhood development. As a result, you’ll notice creative, new approaches to learning and communicating with families.
For example, Banner teachers are in the process of incorporating the Reggio philosophy of learning, which encourages child-centered teaching instead of following a strict curriculum. The hallway photos you see highlighting a special activity are there to document these often unexpected educational adventures. For instance, the students might become so engaged in building with blocks that the teachers allow that enthusiasm to guide the curriculum. Next thing you know, the classroom has spent a week building “their neighborhood” and learning about their place in the world.
As you can imagine, there are hundreds of improvements, large and small, which have been made possible by fundraising dollars. On behalf of Adell Kabins, the school director, many thanks for your involvement and your generosity.
